MonthlySpawning Stock and Egg Production of Peruvian Anchoveta (Engra~/is ringens), 1953 to 1982*

چکیده
Available data on the reproductive biology of the Peruvian anchoveta (ElIgrauJis ringens, nonhem/caltral stock, 4-1405) are reviewed and lUed to estimate monthly spawning size and egg production iran January 1953 to December 1982. Basic information used are: (a) monthly biomass by length class (4 to 20 em), (b) a model relating the shape and position of the matUration ogive to sea surface tcnperatUre, (c) seasonal patterns of matUrity, (d) batch fecundity estimates of fcnales anchoveta and (e) various ancillary information woven into a coherent whole. Potential uses of the time series derived are discussed along with sources of errors and ways of reducing these.

Spatial patterns of Anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) eggs and larvae in relation to pCO2 in the Peruvian upwelling system
Large and productive fisheries occur in regions experiencing or projected to experience ocean acidification. Anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) constitute the world's largest single-species fishery and live in one of the ocean's highest pCO2 regions. We investigated the relationship of the distribution and abundance of Anchoveta eggs and larvae to natural gradients in pCO2 in the Peruvian upwelling ...
متن کاملCoupled Ecosystem/Supply Chain Modelling of Fish Products from Sea to Shelf: The Peruvian Anchoveta Case
Sustainability assessment of food supply chains is relevant for global sustainable development. A framework is proposed for analysing fishfood (fish products for direct human consumption) supply chains with local or international scopes. It combines a material flow model (including an ecosystem dimension) of the supply chains, calculation of sustainability indicators (environmental, socio-econo...
متن کاملValuing seafood: The Peruvian fisheries sector
There are tradeoffs in managing fisheries, and ideally such tradeoffs should be known when setting fisheries policies. An aspect of this, which is rarely considered, is the spin-off effect of different fisheries: the economic and social benefits that fisheries generate through processing through distribution and on to the end consumer. This study evaluated the benefits generated in the Peruvian...
متن کاملTrophic modelling of the Peruvian upwelling ecosystem: Towards reconciliation of multiple datasets
In the 1980s, personnel from the Instituto del Mar del Peru collaborated with foreign experts to reconstruct time series of (1) catch and biomass of the Peruvian anchovy Engraulis ringens back to 1953, along with parallel time series of (2) abundance of anchovy predators and competitors, and (3) abiotic parameters indicative of the dynamics of the Peruvian upwelling system. This contribution do...
متن کاملMammal and Seabird Consumption of Small Pelagic Fishes
Following a brief historical review of the emergence of fisheries for forage fish that are primarily destined for reduction, and their competition with fisheries for human consumption, an account is given of landing trends in various parts of the world, and catch maps are provided for the 1970s and 2000s which allow spatial and temporal comparisons. A brief account is also given of the changing...
